List Control - Grouping - Lookup Dictionary for Break Value

In this document and accompanying video we will learn how to use lookup dictionaries for the group header in a List Control in a UX Component.

In our example we have a simple list that has been grouped according to the Code field.  The group headers display 1, 2 or 3, but these headers do not give us very much information so let's take a look at how we can make the group headers display more meaningful values:

 

 

Click on the Design tab then List properties:

 

 

 

We see that our list contains static data.  Click on Group header text lookup dictionary to specify the group header text:

 

 

 

The Group Header Lookup Dictionary window opens so that we can specify the value of each group break.  Click on Show example to bring up the example window.  This shows us the syntax we need to use, as well as the example of assigning Codes 1, 2 and 3 a specific value of Overdue, Current and Unknown:

 

 

 

However, for our list let's type in these values for Codes 1, 2 and 3:

 

 

 

Click on the Working Preview tab to see how the group headers look now.  Since we defined a dictionary lookup the headers 1, 2 and 3 have been replaced with the more meaningful words, Good, Average, and Below Average although the list is still grouped by the Code field:
